A couple nights later, on Aug. 28, Till was taken to a barn by Bryant’s husband, Roy Bryant, and his half-brother, J.W. Milam, and murdered. He was savefly beaten and had a eye gouged out before being shot in the head and thrown into the Tallahatchie River.

Mamie Till Bradley, Till’s mother, wanted an open-casket funeral for her so the world would see how badly the racists had tortured her son. After the trial in September 1955, Bryant and Milam admitted to killing Till in a magazine interview.

Till would have been 75-years old.

Caple wrote and directed The Land, a film about skateboarders and the drug culture in Cleveland, Ohio. The Land was selected for the 2016 Sundance Film Festival.
